The guys did an awesome job installing the two State Bird Quilts in the Fairfield's stairwell. The birds were embroidered in the 70s, by my brother in laws grandmother, from a much older kit, as Hawaii and Alaska were missing. The large quilt then featured 12 inch blocks and spent time as a furniture cover and then a bedspread. My sister in law, a bird lover, wanted to celebrate the workmanship and find a special place for the birds. My two nephews will now inherit the birds some day, as a remembrance of their great grandmother as well as their mom. I cut the blocks down and using a timeless treasure batik, set them into two quilts, and custom quilted them. Lots of circles in the sashes to represent berries and seeds to feed the birds.
